Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation or ulceration of the digestive tract. It can affect any part of your digestive tract, but it is most common in the last portion of the small intestine and the large intestine. It affects the deepest layers of the lining of the digestive tract, causing ulcers. Today, Crohn's affects 1.4 million Americans.
I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in November 1996 while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Since then, I have coped with the ups and downs of the condition but have never wavered to its’ affects on my body and my life. It has indeed been the greatest battle of my life. Currently in remission thanks to the affects of the drug Remicade I strive for the day that Crohn's can be defeated.
In October 2006 I began attending support group meetings to talk with others who have Crohn’s. With that, I joined the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) and began working for the one cause that affects my life more than any other outside force. The CCFA is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization founded in 1967 by Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D. Janowitz, M.D. It was dedicated to finding the cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
I ask that if you cannot join us for the walk, please consider a donation to help support me, my team, and the CCFA. The CCFA is exempt from federal taxes under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is classified as a publicly supported charitable organization under Section 509(a)(1) of the Code and qualified for the maximum charitable contribution deduction by donors. This means your donation is a tax write-off - plain and simple.
Please this to your friends, family and colleagues and help spread the word. Let them know someone you know if affected by Crohn's and with their help an solution will someday be discovered. Encourage them to give a little to make a lot of difference in the "Battle Against Crohn’s".
Sincerely,
Jason Ettinger
famous quote
Don't use words too big for the subject. Don't say 'infinitely' when you mean 'very'; otherwise you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
